BOSS: PLAYERS BRING QUALITY

5 October 2012

Paul reveals Town tried to sign Richie last summer while Ollie salutes Blues for DJ capture

Paul Jewell has told the Club website that loan recruits DJ Campbell and Richie Wellens will add quality and experience to his squad.

DJ signed a three month loan from QPR this morning and trained with his new team-mates while Richie arrived yesterday from Leicester on a one month loan.

“We are in a tough situation at the moment and the two lads that have come in are experienced players – and very decent players and that is what we need at the moment,” the Town boss told www.itfc.co.uk.

“They are hungry to play football and that’s the key as well.

“Richie is back from injury now and has played the vast majority of games for Leicester over the last two or three years.

“He is a terrific passer of the ball and we actually tried to get him here on a permanent deal in the summer but couldn’t make it work.

“He’s here for six games and I know Leicester don’t want to let him go. They weren’t that keen on him going on loan to another Championship club but we’re pleased to have sorted something out and he will be a big asset to the squad.

“DJ will provide quality as well. He was all set to go to Blackpool a week back but that didn’t happen and we’ve managed to bring him here for three months.

“Ollie [Ian Holloway] rang me last night. He thinks the world of him and told me that we have a really good player and a great lad.

“He will give us that spark that perhaps we need to finish off the chances that we have been creating.”

Paul hasn’t ruled out the possibility of signing both players on a permanent deal if the opportunity arises.

“As I said, Leicester don’t want Richie to go but you never know what can happen in football,” added the boss.

“With DJ, he’s played Premier League football and he is hungry to do well. He wants to play first-team football so it’s not out of the question. We will see how things develop.”
