Byron nets in injury time to earn Blues a share of the spoils with Brentford
A last minute goal from Byron Lawrence earned Town’s U21 Development Squad a share of the spoils, after drawing 2-2 with Brentford at Griffin Park.
The young midfielder netted in injury time to ensure Blues claimed a point, after twice falling behind to the Bees.
The hosts took a first-half lead, after David October unwillingly diverted the ball past Arran Lee-Barrett and into his own net.
But Blues drew level on the stroke of half-time, after Jack Ainsley, who was playing as a striker, robbed Antonio German in possession before coolly finishing past the Bees ‘keeper.
Into the second-half and it was again the hosts who edged in front, with Luke Norris heading home A Stuart Dallas centre with 19 minutes remaining.
Arran Lee-Barrett made a number of smart saves to keep Blues in the tie, before Lawrence popped up in injury to earn Town a deserved share of the spoils.
Coach Sean McCarthy spoke to the Club website after the game and was pleased with the efforts of his players.
“I think a draw was a fair result in the end and overall I’m happy with the performances of the lads,” said Sean.
“Arran (Lee-Barrett) made a number of smart saves, whilst I was also impressed with Bilel Mohsni at centre-half and Jack Ainsley up front. We pushed Jack up top after Jack Marriott came down ill just before the game but he should be ok.
“It was also good for Elliott Hewitt and Cormac Burke to get around 75 minutes each, after both returning from injury.”
