16 October 2012

Defender wins 20th cap as All Whites tame Tahiti on World Cup path

Tommy Smith won his 20th cap for New Zealand as they beat Tahiti 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Christchurch this morning.

The Town defender played the full 90 minutes as the All Whites maintained their position at the top of their four team qualifying group.

New Zealand have won all four of their qualifiers and look set for a play-off place against a Concacaf nation for a place at the World Cup finals in Brazil in 2014.

Also on World Cup duty is Josh Carson, who is in the Northern Ireland squad for their Group F game against Portugal in Porto tonight.
