Defender to return to Town on Thursday after international wins

Tommy Smith will join back up with his Town team-mates on Thursday, after helping New Zealand get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start.

The Blues defender earned his 18th cap as the All Whites comfortably beat the Solomon Islands 6-1 in Auckland, following on from the side’s 2-0 win over New Caledonia in their opening World Cup qualifier.

Smith will return to Portman Road on Thursday, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile Josh Carson was an unused sub for Northern Ireland, as Michael O’Neill’s side drew 1-1 at home to Luxembourg in a World Cup Qualifier, earning a first point of the group campaign after going down 2-0 to Russia in the game previous.
