BOSS HAPPY WITH POINT

20 April 2013

Fair result says Mick as Blues edge to brink of safety

Mick McCarthy was happy enough with the point and will be even happier if the draw at Hillsborough is enough to safeguard Blues’ Championship status.

Town are six points clear of the drop zone with two games to play after Jay Tabb’s first goal for five years earned Blues a 1-1 draw.

The Reading loanee struck after 12  minutes but Leroy Lita equalised for Wednesday in the second-half.

“I’ll take the point and it was probably about right,” said the Town boss.

“We were the better team in the first-half and could have been ahead by more than the one goal but Dave [Jones, Sheffield Wednesday boss] will probably say the same about them in the second-half.

“It wasn’t pretty but then there were two teams out there scrapping for their lives.

“It puts us in a decent position and if someone can come up with an equation that means we are safe, then I will be able to enjoy my Sunday even more.”

The only disappoint for Blues was a hamstring injury to Richard Stearman that is likely to see him miss the remaining two games of the campaign.
