BOSS: STILL WORK TO BE DONE

16 April 2013

Mick delighted with win but says Blues still not safe yet

Mick McCarthy said there is still work to be done despite Blues getting to the 56 points that he thought would bring Championship safety.

Town sit 13th and five points above the drop zone after two goals from Frank Nouble and a wonder strike from Aaron Cresswell gave Blues a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

“I thought 56 points would be enough but clearly it isn’t,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“It’s a nonsense league, the Championship. We’re halfway up the table but only five points away from the relegation zone so clearly we still have work to do. We are in a much better position than a lot of other clubs though.”

Mick conceded Palace were the better side for the first 20 minutes but mistakes at the back by ‘keeper Julian Speroni and Peter Ramage either side of Cressy’s left foot rocket from 25 yards saw them go in at the break three down.

“They were better than us at the start but we changed it around, dropped Jay into the middle where they were dictating,” added the boss.

“We defended well and then Frank chased down the ball, they made a mistake and we’re ahead. Cressy sticks in the goal of the season here and then Frank forces another mistake and we’re three up from nowhere.

“It was then about doing our jobs properly in the second-half and we did that.”
