Striker delighted to play his part as Blues secure Championship safety and now is eyeing up a permanent stay in Suffolk

Daryl Murphy was delighted to see Town secure their Championship status and is now eyeing up a permanent stay at Portman Road.

The striker, currently on a season-long loan from Celtic, netted the third goal of the afternoon as Blues beat Birmingham 3-0 to confirm their place in the division for next season.

“It was a great way to finish at home and hopefully we can repeat it at Burnley next week,” Murph told the Club website.

“We were quick out of the blocks today and Carlos (Edwards) got us off to a great start with a stunning strike.

“I’ll have to look at it again to see if it was better than Cressy’s against Palace, but either way it was a brilliant goal.

“Overall it was a solid, hard-working performance from the team and I was delighted on a personal level to get a goal myself.

“I was starting to wonder when I was next going to score, as the ‘keepers have been pulling off some good saves from me recently!

“But the main thing was keeping us in the division. We’ve done that now and we can start looking to the future.

“I’d love to be a part of that future here. I’ve made no secret that I love it here at Ipswich and I’m settled in the area.

“If something can be done then I would love to stay here on a permanent deal.”
