Timlin, Marriott and Chopra all on target for strong Blues side as U21s finish the season off in style

Town’s U21 Development side ended the season on a high, after beating Colchester United 3-0 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Goals from Mark Timlin, Jack Marriott and Michael Chopra sealed the win for Blues, in a game that Mark Kennedy’s side dominated.

Town made a bright start to the game and opened the scoring after just three minutes. Lee Martin, making his return to action following illness and injury, saw his shot saved by Steve Phillips but Timlin was on hand to convert the rebound from close range.

A strong Blues side were dominating proceedings and the lead was doubled five minutes later through Marriott. The striker bustled his way into the box before cooling slotting beyond Phillips.

Arran Lee-Barrett had to be alert in the Town goal though, showing good reflexes to tip away an effort from U’s left-back Michael O’Donoghue.

The hosts started the second-half well and some sustained pressure led to a good opportunity midway through the second-half, as former Town Academy scholar Jack Simmons crossed to the back-post but Tosin Olufemi could only head wide of the target.

However Blues were to punish Colchester for that miss as Chopra sealed the win with a third Town goal with 17 minutes remaining. The striker showed predatory instincts to creep away from his marker before lashing the ball home.

That was the way it stayed as Town’s U21s signed off the season in style.

Town: Lee-Barrett, Hewitt, Brown, Clarke, Mings, Timlin, Berkane (Leddy 90), Wordsworth (Lawrence 46), Martin (Galvin 65), Marriott, Chopra. Subs not used: Crowe, Hammond.
