Midfielder comes through 90 minutes for the U21s unscathed and is now targeting a place in the first-team before the season is out

Anthony Wordsworth was delighted to get some match action under his belt this week and is eyeing up a return to the first-team picture.

The midfielder, who joined the Blues from Colchester in January, played 90 minutes for the U21 side yesterday for the first time since cracking three vertebrae during February’s win over Blackpool.

“It was good to be out there and it was the first 90 minutes I’ve played since the start of January,” Woody told the Club website.

“It’s been just over 12 weeks since I last played a full 90 so that was the most important thing for me, to get through the whole game.

“I was delighted to get through it unscathed, although a little stiff afterwards, but obviously we were all disappointed with the result.

“The main thing for me now is to try and get back into the first-team. There aren’t too many fixtures left but I’m hoping I can get some games under my belt before the end of the season and play my part in the run-in.”
