But draw feels like defeat because we should have won

Mick McCarthy said he felt like it was a defeat after watching Town denied a win the performance deserved at St Andrew’s.

Christophe Berra’s first goal for Town and in English football gave Blues a first-half lead and only an outstanding display by Birmingham ‘keeper Darren Randolph kept his side in the game before
Chris Burke’s shot 15 minutes from time deflected off Ryan Tunnicliffe and looped into the net.

“We were excellent and did enough to have won three games today,” said the Town boss.

“It feels like a defeat really. They used their ‘get out of jail free card’. They got a huge slice of luck with the goal and hopefully we will get some luck like that at some stage in the season.

“It was a very good performance from us but their ‘keeper was outstanding. It wasn’t like we didn’t hit the target, he had one of those games where he saved everything.

“It was important to get something from the 90 minutes after the last couple of games – especially going into the international break but I can’t say we got what we deserved because I think anyone looking at that game would have said we deserved to win. I can be delighted with the performance though.”
