TOP SIX APPEAL FOR BOSS

26 December 2013

Mick welcomes Play-Off position and reveals Tunners set to stay

Mick McCarthy welcomed Town’s climb into the top six after watching his side win comfortably at Doncaster.

Two goals from David McGoldrick and a header from Luke Chambers saw Blues make it six games unbeaten with a 3-0 win at the Keepmoat.

“I didn’t think we played that well in the first-half. Two goals up probably flattered us but we scored from two great deliveries,” said the Town boss.

“Gerks has made a matchwinning save just before half-time and that was crucial. It was a fantastic save from the free-kick.

“We were better in the second-half and maybe we could have done more damage than we did do.

“Donny kept going but it’s a good win for us and takes us into the top six. It’s always nice to be in that position and that’s the target but of course it’s where we are at the end of the season that counts.”

Mick also added that Ryan Tunnicliffe is set to extend his loan until the end of the season.

The midfielder’s loan spell from Manchester United is up after the game at Bournemouth but the Town boss added: “I have spoken to David Moyes and unless they desperately need him, Ryan will stay with us. We will make that happen.”

The loan will see Ryan remain at Portman Road until the end of the season but the paperwork is unlikely to be finalised in time for him to feature against Charlton on New Year’s Day.
