BLUES AND ARROWS

14 January 2013

Archer Nicky plays mind games with Town

The Town players were eying another target at training today after being put to the test by top archer, Nicky Hunt.

The double gold medallist from the 2010 Commonwealth Games was invited down to Playford Road to talk to the players by Town’s fitness consultant Steve Williams.

“I think there is a lot to be gained by talking to people at the top end of other sports,” Steve, a double Olympic rowing gold medal winner, explained to the Club website.

“Nicky spoke about her preparations and recreating excellence on demand within competition.

“The mental side is very prevalent in her sport. Dealing with the pressures of competition. How she recovers her composure after a bad shot and gets back to her maximum level.

“The players found it very interesting and came up with a lot of good questions. It was a good exercise.

“They all took to the archery successfully as well and had all improved by the end of the session.  We had a team event and then an individual shoot-out and Tommy [Smith] probably came out on top overall.

“It was bitterly cold but the players were out there for a good while so as I say, I think they got a lot out of it.”

Nicky, who is based in Kesgrave, is aiming to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics.
