We should have won but have only ourselves to blame says Mick

Mick McCarthy said Town threw away the game at Ashton Gate after watching his side have the better chances but slip to defeat.

Daryl Murphy’s sixth goal of the season put Blues ahead at the break but second-half strikes from Steven Davies and former Town striker Jon Stead won the game for the Robins.

“I should be happy with a lot of our play but I’m not because I’m standing here and we’ve lost the game,” said the Town boss.

“I’m fed up, angry, frustrated, disappointed – all of that and more.  We should have won the game but we mucked it up.

“We should have been two up at the break. Lee Martin had a great chance and then we conceded a goal straight after the break, just like we did at Aston Villa.

“It was a great goal by them but a bad one for us to concede and then the winner was a shocking goal from our part. One ball down the middle takes out three of our defenders.

“We had the better of the game, had the best chances but that doesn’t mean anything because we have lost. It's our own fault and that has ruined my weekend!”
