It looks like it could be their year says boss ahead of trip to Championship leaders

Mick McCarthy says Cardiff are on course for promotion as Blues prepare to take on the Championship leaders.

The Welsh club have been Play-Off regulars over the last few seasons but look destined to finally take the step up this term, with a healthy lead at the top of the table.

“They have been close before but at the moment it certainly looks like it could be their year,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player.

“I have only seen them on TV and we have obviously had them watched and done our preparation for the game but they look a very good side.

“The Bluebirds are playing in red now and the club have been rebranded. They have a new stadium and Malky [Mackay] has done a great job there. They certainly look to be heading in the right direction.”

Frank Nouble will be one of four players hoping to make his League debut for Town. The former Chelsea and West Ham striker is included in the squad along with fellow newboys Aaron Mclean, Patrick Kisnorbo and David McGoldrick.

“I was looking to sign Frank when I was at Wolves,” added Mick.

“Terry [Connor] took him to the club and had four months with him and he was impressed and Terry is a good judge of a player.

“He’s big and powerful with plenty of potential. We will work with him and get him going and he has made an impact on the training pitch already.”

Ipswich Player will carry live commentary of the game at Cardiff, kick-off 3pm. Subscribers can also watch the full interview with Mick in the Kick-Off preview show which is available now.
