Fabulous winner says Mick and he's impressed with trio

Mick McCarthy felt Town deserved the victory at Gillingham even though the winner came as a surprise.

David October struck with the last kick of the game, a terrific right foot finish from the edge of the box after David McGoldrick had given Blues a first-half lead with an equally fine strike from a 30 yard free-kick.

Cody McDonald equalised for the home side but Town had the better chances before October’s winner maintained Town's 100 per cent pre-season campaign.

“I wasn’t expecting that from Rocco. It was a fabulous finish, an unbelievably technical right foot finish," said Mick.

“I think we deserved to win. Their ‘keeper made some terrific saves and we edged it. I know it’s only pre-season but it’s always nice to win.”

Town had three trialists in the team, Frederic Veseli, Titus Bramble and Bongani Khumalo and the boss was impressed with them all.

“Bongani and Freddy did really well and Titus did what Titus had to do,” added Mick.

“I only met up with Titus for the first time today at our pre-match meal. He asked Simon Milton if he could come in for training and wanted to play tonight.

“He’s obviously interested in coming here and we are interested in him otherwise he wouldn’t be playing for us. He showed a good commitment to come and play but it’s early days yet. No more than that.”
