IRELAND BOOST FOR YOUNG BLUES

9 July 2013

Experience will be invaluable for youngsters says Terry

Terry Connor says the week the youngsters spent in Ireland as part of the first-team squad will be invaluable experience to them.

First-year professionals, David October and Mark Timlin, along with Academy scholars Amir Berkane and Kyle Hammond made the trip across the Irish Sea and all featured in Blues’ 2-0 win over Shelbourne on Saturday as the pre-season campaign got underway.

“The experience of being away as part of the squad will be invaluable to the young players,” assistant manager Terry told the Club website.

“Over those five or six days, they have probably picked up six months worth of experience, not just from the gaffer and myself but being around the other players.

“We have some good professionals here and the boys will have seen how they reacted to certain situations and you can’t beat that as a young player, learning in that way.

“Our youngsters are good players with a lot of ability but they have a long way to go yet. They have to learn how to play the game and how to act and react and the week in Ireland will have been a big help in their development.”
