Town looking to end pre-season programme off with another win at Meadow Lane
Town will be looking to round up the pre-season programme with another victory tomorrow, with the Blues taking on Notts County at Meadow Lane (kick-off 3pm).
Mick McCarthy’s side have so far recorded victories against Shelbourne, Chippenham, Crawley, Gillingham, Barnet and Colchester, with the game against the Magpies set to complete the pre-season schedule ahead of next Saturday’s Championship curtain-raiser against Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
Paul Taylor made his long-awaited return for Town as a second-half substitute during the win over Colchester, with the striker having been sidelined for ten months with a foot injury.
After impressing against the U’s, the former Peterborough man will be hoping to be involved at Meadow Lane. Paul Anderson, who missed the game against Colchester with a hamstring injury, and Cole Skuse who was substitute with a knock to his knee will both be assessed before the squad is named.
There will be a familiar face in the opposition dug-out on Saturday, with County boss Chris Kiwomya a popular former Blue.
Chris was installed into the Meadow Lane hotseat in March, after a successful spell in caretaker charge and has already recruited former Town man Danny Haynes, after the striker left Charlton Athletic.
Recent addition, Christophe Berra told the Club website that he is looking for more action in a Blue shirt, after making his Town debut against Colchester last week.
“It was good to get some minutes against Colchester and hopefully I can add to that against Notts County,” said the Scotland international.
“The lads have been brilliant with me and I’ve settled in really well. Obviously I know the gaffer and TC well so it’s been an easy transition really.
“Fitness-wise I’m doing quite well. Luckily I’m a pretty fit lad anyway and I had been training with my former club Hearts before coming here, so I’m not too far behind.”
Magpies boss Chris Kiwomya looks ahead to Town’s visit to Meadow and going up against his former club.
“I’m excited for the game- although it’s going to feel a bit weird going up against Ipswich!” Kiwomya told ‘the Mag’, Notts County’s official matchday programme.
“I’ve got a lot of friends coming to the game and I’m also looking forward to welcoming Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor to Meadow Lane.”
One to watch
Danny Haynes. No stranger to Town supporters, former Blue Danny Haynes joined Notts County earlier this summer on a free transfer, after seeing his contract at Charlton Athletic expire. The striker progressed through the Academy ranks at Portman Road, before establishing himself in the first-team and becoming a fans favourite after developing a knack of scoring against East Anglian rivals Norwich City. Has also represented Bristol City and Barnsley during his career.
