Gerken and Seaborne on bench as Blues take on Shelbourne

Town have included two trialists in the squad for today’s opening friendly of pre-season, against Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Former Colchester and Bristol City ‘keeper Dean Gerken, who has been training with the squad for a couple of weeks, will be wearing Blues colours and starts on the bench.

The 28-year-old is a free agent having been released by Bristol at the end of last season.

Fellow free agent Dan Seaborne, who has also been in Ireland for the week, is also named amongst the substitutes. The 26-year-old defender had loan spells at Charlton and Bournemouth last term but is now looking for a club after being released by Southampton.

Town’s assistant manager Terry Connor – assisted by Dave Bowman - will marshall Blues from the dug-out with Mick McCarthy back in the UK for a long-standing commitment.

Town starting line-up: Loach, Hewitt, Cresswell, Chambers, Mings, Skuse, Timlin, Wordsworth, Nouble, Chopra, Carson.
