Mick praise for resilient Town and moment of quality for goal

Mick McCarthy was delighted with his team as Town picked up a ‘massive’ three points against promotion chasing Leicester.

David McGoldrick’s left foot finish late on gave Blues the win that sees the Club move six points clear of the drop zone.

“It was a massive win for us against a very good team,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“I am delighted with the players. We were resilient, professional and showed good organisation. It was all those horrible things again that you need to do to be a good side.

“They have got more technical ability than us. They have more confidence because of their position in the table but no one is better than us at putting in a good shift and being resolute and we showed that in abundance, against a team that beat us by six earlier in the season don’t forget.

“It was the one moment of real quality in the game from Didsy that won the match for us and then at the end we got bodies in the way to see out the game. It was Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who made a great block at the end to earn us the three points and it’s good to have him back in the fold.

“He played his way back into the squad with his performance in the U21s on Monday night. He was excellent on the night and has earned the right to be back in the first-team.”
