BOSS PROUD OF PLAYERS

5 March 2013

Mick tribute to nine man Blues but has split opinion on red cards

Mick McCarthy had no arguments with Lee Martin’s red card but felt Richard Stearman was unlucky to be dismissed as nine man Town went down at Forest.

Lewis McGugan’s deflected strike six minutes from time gave Forest the win after Blues had played the last 20 minutes with nine men.

Lee was dismissed in the first-half after reacting to a foul by Henri Lansbury, with Richard seeing red for a second booking following a challenge on Andy Reid.

“Lee retaliated after the guy caught him on the ankle but it’s always the player who retaliates who gets done,” said the Town boss.

“I can’t argue with the red card and it’s disappointing obviously. I didn’t like the way the player rolled around though. Lee didn’t make that much contact.

“With Stears, at first I thought it was a booking but having watched it on tape, he is shielding Andy Reid away and Andy – who is a mate of mine - has gone down and rolled around.

“We have lost the game and that’s what counts but the players were terrific and I’m really proud of them. It took a deflection to beat us and that was the only way they looked like scoring.”
