Boss to build on nucleus of team with tried and tested and young and hungry

Mick McCarthy is looking to build on the core of the team he has at the moment with a combination of tried and tested – and young and hungry players.

Blues finished in 14th place in the Championship table, picking up 53 points from 33 games under the Town boss after he took charge at Portman Road with the Club anchored at the bottom with just seven points at the start of November.

So what’s needed to move Blues forward for 2013/14?

“We need to maintain what we have got now, with the nucleus of the side,” Mick told the Club website.

“The likes of Loachy, Cressy, Tommy Smith, Chambo, Luke Hyam, Frank Nouble, Carlos. They all finished the season well and will want to take that into next year.

“We have to build on that as well as maintaining the team spirit we have here.

“Recruitment is the key for any club and it will be important for us. There are going to be players coming in and players going out and we’ve got to get the right ones in to supplement what we have.

“Tried and tested players are nice of course and we have seen what the likes of Richard Stearman and Jay Tabb brought to the side with their quality but I like young and hungry as well. I get a lot out of that.”
