Portman Road pitch goes under renovation work ahead of the start of the new season
The season may be done and dusted, but the work is just beginning for Town’s groundstaff!
The Portman Road pitch is going under a series of renovation work as preparations get underway for the new season.
With no home pre-season friendlies planned, it allows the pitch maximum time to recover and restore ahead of the new campaign, which gets underway on August 3rd with the fixtures released on June 19th.
Around 40mm will be skimmed off the top of the pitch and replaced with a sand bed, before being re-seeded.
The groundstaff, led by Head Groundsman Ben Connell, will be working tirelessly over the summer to ensure the Portman Road pitch is up to scratch come the new term.
The final game before the work on the pitch began was the Suffolk Premier Cup earlier this week, with Bury Town running out 2-0 winners against Lowestoft Town.
