Fun day had by all as Bryan Hamilton's side edge past team led by Mick Mills
Town’s annual Portman Cup took place this week, with a home side managed by Bryan Hamilton squeezing past Mick Mills’ away counterparts by a goal to nil.
Ben Jacobs netted the winner for Bryan’s side late on, lashing home from 12 yards after the away team failed to clear their lines from a corner.
A fun day was had by all, with the sought-after Portman Cup being presented afterwards as well as a number of individual prizes.
Richard Hibbert was named home man of the match by manager Bryan, whilst Mick named defender Adrian Taylor as his away man of the match.
There was also an award for home ‘keeper James Deacon, who scooped the momentous moment of the match for his wayward throw, which flew straight out of play at a right-angle. Despite the slip-up, it has to be said that the stopper performed superbly between the sticks.
Town’s Sales Manager, Rosie Richardson was delighted with the interest and uptake of the event and confirms that the Portman Cup will be taking place again next year.
“It’s an annual tournament and the interest keeps getting stronger,” Rosie told the Club website.
“We were given a date for the use of the pitch by the Head Groundsman in December and as soon as we marketed the Portman Cup, it sold out within days.
“It was probably the fasting selling Portman Cup we have had so it’s really encouraging to see that this is still a very popular event.
“We’ve received a whole host of comments and emails from supporters praising the day and the way it was organised, which means a lot to the staff here in the Sales team who have all worked very hard.
“It’s a great event and really does allow the true Blue to live out their dreams, by playing a match on the hallowed Portman Road turf. So make sure you get involved next year!”
