Irish club host Blues' first game in build up to new season

Town will play a friendly against Shelbourne on Saturday, July 6 to round off a week’s stay in the Republic of Ireland.

The game looks set to be Blues’ first match of the pre-season campaign, with kick-off at Tolka Park at 5pm.

Ticket details will be announced on the Club website and our social media channels in due course.

“In the past I’ve taken teams to Carton House in Kildare, Ireland and spent the week there and that has worked out really well,” Town boss Mick McCarthy told the Club website.

“It’s a great venue with fantastic facilities. The players can work hard there but we can also enjoy ourselves and have a bit of banter.

“It’s not so much a tour because we’ll just play the one game at the end of the week but it’s a chance for the players to work in a great environment and bond over the week. Being away together also gives any new players we have the opportunity to settle in.”

Shelbourne play in the League of Ireland Premier Division and became the first Irish club to reach the third qualifying round of the Champions League in 2004/05.

Blues’ pre-season campaign also sees a clash against Colchester at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on July 23. Kick-off 7.45pm.
