Marriott at the double as Mark Kennedy's Development squad leave Swansea with a share of the spoils

Jack Marriott bagged a brace for Town’s U21 Development side, as they drew 2-2 with Swansea at Stebonheath Park.

Blues went behind early on to the Premier League Swans, with Rory Donnelly opening the scoring within the first five minutes.

However Town drew level midway through the first-half as Marriott poked the ball home following a goalmouth scramble after 24 minutes.

Yet in a frantic first period, the hosts then retook the lead as Lee Lucas bundled the ball home after Town ‘keeper Michael Crowe had failed to deal with a deep cross.

But Marriott maintained his impressive form as he netted his and Town’s second the level the scores once more, with a neat finish from just outside the area.

Marriott came close to completing his hat-trick in the second-half, but saw an effort cleared off the line by a Swansea defender, whilst the hosts themselves saw a well-struck drive come back off the post as both sides settled for the point.

The draw leaves Mark Kennedy’s side still searching for a first win of the campaign, with Brighton next up for the young Blues on Monday at Portman Road (kick-off 7pm).

Town: Crowe, Emmanuel, Wearen, M Clarke, Timlin, Doherty, Berkane, Lawrence, Adekunle, Winter, Marriott. Subs: Marsden, G Clarke, Sowunmi, Galvin, Bishop.
