Mick proud of second-half display as Town win thriller

Mick McCarthy felt Town deserved the win after a stirring second-half display at Bloomfield Road.

Daryl Murphy won the game for Blues with virtually the last kick after Steven Davies had levelled for Blackpool in the first minute of added on time.

Frank Nouble and Paul Taylor were both on target for Town after coming on as half-time substitutes.

“We were poor in the first-half and we had to change it and I was delighted with the response I got from the players in the second-half,” said the Town boss.

“We worked in training on ‘what ifs’, trying different formations and that paid off in the second-half and I thought we deserved the win.

“I gave Frank a blasting yesterday because I didn’t think he was doing it in training and he responds like that today. He was a real handful and so was Tayls. We paid a lot of money for him and hopefully that’s the start of him paying us back.

“Hunty [Stephen Hunt] was great for us as well. He’s only getting paid when he plays and to come over from Ireland yesterday, train and then go out and do a job for us at left-back shows the sort of terrific character he is.

“I thought his shot at the end was going in the top corner and their guy did great to get his head on it. I think they were still congratulating him when the corner came in and Murph has got on the end of it.

“If I’d had a heart monitor on in those last five minutes, the bells would have been going off but in the end we have deserved it.”
