DEFEAT FOR U21S AGAINST MILLWALL

8 October 2013

Mark Kennedy's young Blues beaten by the Lions at The Den in latest Development clash

Town’s U21 Development side slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Millwall at The Den this afternoon.

The Lions ran out comfortable winners thanks to first-half strikes from Nial McManus and Jack Powell and a further goal late on from Charlie Penny sealing the win for Neil Harris’ side.

Town fielded a strong side, including first-teamers Scott Loach, Anthony Wordsworth and Frank Nouble but found themselves a goal behind after 22 minutes, as McManus beat Loach with a fine finish.

The hosts doubled their lead ten minutes before the break, as Powell cracked home a superb 25-yard free-kick, leaving Town stopper Loach with no chance.

Wordsworth had a chance to pull a goal moments later, but he fired high and wide with former Town loanee Stephen Bywater having little to do in the Millwall goal.

The Lions sealed the win seven minutes from time as Penny latched onto a long ball upfield before coolly slotting past Loach.

Mark Kennedy’s side will hope to bounce back from this defeat with three points against Bristol City in their next game, with the Robins visiting Portman Road on October 21.

Town: Loach, Veseli, Sowunmi, Mings, October, Doherty (Timlin 71), Sweeney, Wordsworth, Adekunle, Marriott, Nouble. Subs not used: Crowe, Clarke, Berkane, Winter.
