England U21 boss wants his players to excite the Portman Road crowd this evening by playing 'expressive' football

Gareth Southgate is calling on his players to entertain the Portman Road crowd this evening, as England U21s take on their Lithuanian counterparts at the home of Town.

The Young Lions boss wants to see his players transform the exciting form shown in previous games and in training into tonight’s fixture against Lithuania, with kick-off at 6pm.

“What we’ve tried to do in the first three matches and in the ‘get-togethers’ is to play in a certain style and in train in an expressive way,” Southgate told Ipswich Player.

“We’ve spoken about the challenge of young English players controlling games and prove to people that they are capable of playing in a team that is more than capable of keeping possession of the ball.

“As well as that, we aim to create plenty of chances and score goals and I think that has been evident in the type of players we’ve picked in the squad.

“When you pick those type of exciting, flair players then I think it’s important you allow them the freedom to go and play and that’s something we encourage.”

Here’s what can be expected of the England U21 side this evening, with some behind the scenes footage of training and the recent 4-0 win over San Marino.
