England boss delighted with support and display from his side

Gareth Southgate told Ipswich Player that he’d be delighted to return to Portman Road with his England U21 team in the future.

More than 17,000 fans watched the young lions beat Lithuania 5-0 tonight, with a brace each from Ravel Morrison and Saido Berahino and James Ward-Prowse scoring from a free-kick.

“It was fantastic support tonight,” the England U21 boss told Ipswich Player.

“We knew 12,000 or so had been sold yesterday so for another 5000 to come on the night is terrific.

“Hopefully we rewarded them with the style of play and the manner of the victory and we’d be delighted to come back here.”

Morrison struck after three minutes to give England the lead and Southgate added: “It was pleasing once we killed the game probably with the second goal that we went and expressed ourselves and started to convert the chances that we have created in other games.

“We have looked like we might do that to a team and tonight we have done that. At times it was really enjoyable to watch.”
