Mixed start for Latics but Mick sees them as one of the teams to stop

Mick McCarthy says Town will be taking on one of the promotion favourites when Blues face Wigan on Sunday.

The Latics have had a mixed start to the Championship campaign with two wins two draws and two defeats from their six games after finishing last season with the FA Cup – but also relegation from the Premier League.

“It’s not always easy when you come down from the Premier League, we saw that last year with Wolves and Blackburn,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“There have been changes there, with players. They also have a new manager in Owen [Coyle] and he will do things differently from Robbie [Martinez] but he has a very good squad there.

“He made seven changes to the side for their European game on Thursday [goalless draw in Belgium against Zulte-Waregem]. I watched that game and the side he had out looked a very good Championship side.

“They started off the season as one of the favourites for promotion and they are still one of the favourites. They are definite contenders.”

Mick also confirmed that Paul Anderson has recovered from a groin injury and is fit for selection. The game kicks-off at 3pm at the DW Stadium with live commentary, as always on Ipswich Player.
