Town striker David backing former teammate Gareth Bale to shine in Madrid

David McGoldrick believes his former Southampton teammate, Gareth Bale, is one of the best performers in the world right now and is backing the Welshman to be a hit at Real Madrid.

The former Tottenham man left White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu this week in a world record £85.3m move.

The left-back played with current Town man McGoldrick at Southampton, and the Blues’ striker is backing Bale to continue to go from strength to strength.

“He’s clearly a top player, one of the best around and he proved that last season at Spurs,” Didzy told the Club website.

“I was with Gareth at Southampton and he was always a really technically gifted player, that was clear to see, but it wasn’t always clear what his best position was to utilise his attributes.

“Obviously Tottenham used him as a left-winger and sometimes as a forward, whereas at Southampton he was playing at left-back.

“I remember when he first came up to the first-team at Saints and he was quite small but the following summer, he reported back for pre-season and he had been in the gym, bulked up and all of a sudden looked like a man ready to play in the first-team on a regular basis.

“He established himself in the team and his performances were always really good. That was proven as its why Tottenham signed him and I’m sure he will continue to go from strength to strength over the next few years.”
