Luke Chambers admits it's no surprise to see Mick linked with the Ireland manager's job but the focus remains on Boro at the weekend

Luke Chambers has told the Club website that he isn’t surprised to see Mick McCarthy’s name linked with the vacant Republic of Ireland manager's job.

The Town boss has been mentioned as one of numerous candidates to replace Giovanni Trapattoni, who departed his post as manager this week, and Chambo believes it just shows how highly Mick is rated in the game.

"Our gaffer is going to get linked with jobs like that because he's a top, top manager," the former Nottingham Forest man told the Club website.

“When jobs become available I wouldn’t expect anything less than for him to be linked with most of them, because that’s how highly he’s rated by the players and by people in the game.

“You can see the impact that he’s made on the pitch here since he arrived but he’s also created a great environment off it and it’s a fantastic place to come into and work every day.

“So I’m not surprised to see his name in the running but he’s our manager and we’ve been working hard all week preparing for two important home games against Middlesbrough and Yeovil.”
