Mick delighted with response as Town step up Play-Off chase

Mick McCarthy hailed his team’s character after Town bounced back in style from the weekend defeat at Blackburn to cut the gap to the top six to just two points.

First-half goals from Paul Anderson and Daryl Murphy gave Blues the win at Huddersfield and with sixth placed Reading going down at Bournemouth, the Play-Off race is hotting up.

“The performance and the result showed the team spirit, the work ethic that we have here, plus we have good players,” said the Town boss.

“We’ve had to travel back and then come up here again after the defeat at Blackburn and there is something about you when you respond the way we did. It was top class from the players.

“The results have gone our way as well and we’re still right in there and that’s great.

“It was a terrific goal from Ando and there is more to come from him. We are always going on at him about being more positive. He does so many good things for the team, making blocks and challenges – which is great but he’s got so much more he can show going forward.

“It was a poacher’s goal from Murph for the second. He was excellent again for us and he’s having the best season of his career.”
