Born and bred Blue says Town players know what game means to fans

Luke Hyam is relishing the prospect of playing in his first derby as Town get set to take on Norwich at Portman Road.

The born and bred Blue is hoping to keep his place in the team for tomorrow’s clash with the Canaries, with his family and friends sure to be among the crowd.

“As soon as the fixtures were out, I was getting calls from friends and family asking for tickets for the game,” said Luke, speaking in an interview in Saturday’s matchday programme.

“I’ve watched a few derbies as a fan and I can remember Danny Haynes scoring a few times against Norwich. He always seemed to score against them but this will be the first one I’ve really been involved with.

“You can sense around the town that it’s a big match coming up and I’ve been telling the players what the derby means to the supporters. They’ve got it though.

“I’m buzzing for the game. We all are. There’s going to be a big crowd, and the bigger the better. I thought the crowd were great in our last game here, against Fulham. It really does help when you feel the fans behind you.

“The atmosphere is going to be fantastic on Saturday. I can’t wait.”
