Mick keen to keep Ambrose but St Ledger leaves Portman Road

Sean St Ledger has left Town but Mick McCarthy has told the Club website that he’s hoping to see Darren Ambrose extend his stay at Portman Road.

Republic of Ireland international St Ledger signed a short term contract in November but didn’t feature for Blues while Darren has made five substitute appearances since signing a deal in September.

That contract expires after Tuesday night’s game against Charlton but Town boss Mick told “We do hope to sort something out with Darren.

“He has done well when he’s had time on the pitch. He’s not had as many minutes as he would have liked but we still have half a season to play.

“Darren likes it here but he might have other options. We will see what develops but it’s our intention to try and keep him here.

“With Sean, his contract was up after the Brentford game and he has left the Club.

“We have a really good young defender in Matt Clarke and I would play him in front of Sean. We also have Elliott Hewitt on a 24 hour recall from Colchester, where he is on loan, so we have cover in defensive positions.”
