MATCH PREVIEW: TOWN V MIDDLESBROUGH

19 December 2014

Ando searching for Town Christmas number one as the Blues prepare for Boro test at Portman Road

Paul Anderson is hoping for a Town ‘Christmas number one’ this weekend, as Blues plot a path to the summit of the Championship table with a win over Middlesbrough.

The midfielder is part of the squad ready to face Boro at Portman Road, with three points potentially taking Mick McCarthy’s side top- although Ando realises whatever the result, Town are still in a great position.

“We’re confident and the boys have all trained really well this week,” the 26 year-old told the Club website.

“We’re looking at the positive side of things in playing Middlesbrough and we are hoping to go top with a win.

“Regardless of the result on Saturday, we’re still in a great position and all the teams around us seem to be playing each other over the next few games.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but it would be great for the players, staff and of course the fans to be sitting top of the table going into Christmas.”

Team news

Town will again be without the services of midfielder Luke Hyam, who misses out with an Achilles injury. Defender Tyrone Mings is a doubt with a toe injury, whilst Noel Hunt will also be assessed after taking a knock to the knee. His brother, Stephen, is back in contention though after missing the goalless draw with Bolton with a virus.

GRANT LEADBITTER, Middlesbrough Captain

“Ipswich’s form hasn’t surprised me at all because Mick McCarthy is a very good manager.

“We know what to expect because it’s going to be a very tough game down there but I’m looking forward to it.”

Worn both badges

There have been a number of players to have worn the badge of both sides, with the most notable being Town legend, John Wark. The Scotland international needs no introduction to Blues supporters, having established himself as one of our greatest ever players during his three-stint spell at Portman Road. As well as turning out for Liverpool, John spent a year playing for Boro making 32 appearances on Teeside.
