Mick looking forward to Boxing Day cracker with Championship top spot the prize to the winner
Mick McCarthy is looking forward to a Boxing Day cracker when second placed Town take on third placed Brentford.
With the game kicking off at 1pm, the prize for the winners at Griffin Park is a place at the top of the Championship table.
“It’s going to a real proper match this one,” the Town boss told the Club website.
“Brentford are flying and there are many similarities between the two teams. They work hard, like us. They have got good players and they seem to have a happy squad as well. It’s not the biggest but they all look all in it together.
“They have come up from League One with momentum and are building on that and they had a terrific result at Cardiff at the weekend.
“I really like their manager Mark Warburton. He has done a terrific job there and they deserve their place at the top of the table.
“It would have been interesting to see the odds for Bournemouth, us and Brentford being the top three at Christmas when we kicked off back in August but we all deserve to be where we are.”
Town are hoping to have Noel Hunt back after the striker missed Saturday’s win over Middlesbrough. Tyrone Mings is available after recovering from an infected toe while Cole Skuse is hoping to be fit after being forced off against Boro with a suspected hamstring problem.
Foot in both camps
Jay Tabb started his League career at Brentford and spent six years at Griffin Park before joining Coventry in the summer of 2006. He made 156 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals. This will be his first return to the club as a player since he left.
