Mick delighted with performance and win and to see Didz on the scoresheet

Mick McCarthy hailed Town’s display as outstanding as Blues finished 2014 in style and in the promotion places with victory over Charlton.

The biggest crowd at Portman Road in over four years, 26, 157, saw goals from Tommy Smith, Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick give Blues the points with a 3-0 win.

“It was an outstanding performance and an outstanding result,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player.

“It was a well deserved win against a more than capable side and a great way to finish the year.

“We had to dig in but the second goal knocked them back a bit and we are all delighted to see Didz get the third at the end.

“He has been outstanding for us and has done all the dirty side of the game but it was vital for him that he got a goal for his own peace of mind.

“Sometimes when you are not scoring, you start to snatch at chances and get a bit desperate to get that goal. You start to wonder when the next one is coming from.

“We know about his quality and there was never a case of him not being in the side but he judges himself on scoring goals. He will want to finish the season top scorer.”
