PREVIEW: TOWN V CHARLTON

30 December 2014

Mick expecting tough encounter against 'revenge seeking' Addicks and praises the superb support of the Blue Army

Mick McCarthy has praised the support of the Blue Army over the past year- and is urging for more of the same for one final time in 2014.

The Blues take on Charlton at Portman Road tonight (KO 7.45pm) with another bumper gate expected through the turnstiles for what Mick believes could be one of Town’s toughest games of the season.

“It was certainly one of our hardest games of the season at their place a few weeks back, when Noel [Hunt] scored the winner with virtually the final kick,” said Mick, speaking in his matchday programme column.

“They are probably looking for a bit of revenge so I’m sure it will be just as tight tonight

“It should be a cracking game- and a cracking atmosphere- with another big crowd tonight.

“There is always something special about evening games at Portman Road under the lights and I’d like to thank the fans for their fantastic support over the past year- and to keep it up for one more game!”

Team news

Tyrone Mings (toe) and Luke Hyam (Achilles) are both available for selection after recovering from injury, although Sean St Ledger has left the Club following his short-term deal. Noel Hunt will play the final game of his loan spell before returning to Leeds United.

Charlton will be without the services of striker Callum Harriott, following his Boxing Day sending off against Charlton. Former Town loanee Stephen Henderson misses out on a Portman Road return through injury, however Frank Moussa and Simon Church should both be fit for selection.

Last time we met

A dramatic climax to an entertaining clash at The Valley a month ago came courtesy of Noel Hunt’s injury time debut winner. The Leeds loanee pounced on a loose clearance and slotted the pall past Nick Pope and into the corner to send the Town fans- and staff- in raptures in front of the live Sky TV cameras.
