NO NEW CONTRACT FOR YOUNGSTERS

20 February 2014

Hardest week of the season says boss as players released

David October, Mark Timlin, Jonathan Leddy, Tom Winter and Jordan Adekunle have all been told they will not be offered new contracts for next season.

Jordan joined Blues in August on a one year deal from Crawley after impressing in a pre-season friendly between the clubs but has not featured for the first-team this term.

The other four teenagers, who all progressed through the Academy at Playford Road and were handed one year deals last summer, have also not made the step up into the senior set-up.

“It’s the worst week in my season, having to tell them and explain to them why we have to let them go,” Town boss Mick McCarthy told the Club website.

“It’s for the good of them as much as anyone else. I’ve spoken to the Academy staff, the U21s and TC. We’ve all had a say and we all agree. We’re not saying they are not going to be players. It’s just we believe it won’t be here.”

The five will continue to train at Playford Road while they look for new clubs.
