Town approaching watershed month says Mick

Mick McCarthy says Town are approaching a defining period in the season as Blues begin a busy month against Birmingham at Portman Road just five points off the top six.

It will be the first of seven games in March, with fellow Play-Off challengers Wigan, Derby and Nottingham Forest all due at Portman Road, while Blues also travel to another top six contender, Brighton.

“It is a watershed in the season, March,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player. “Without a doubt it’s a crucial month because of the amount of games we play and the teams that we are playing.

“Saturday against Birmingham is hugely important. If we win it, we will still be right in there – irrespective of what the other teams do around us.

“Who knows though, we could come through it and be two points off sixth place. It’s a big month but let’s deal with Birmingham first, that’s the most important.”

Subscribers to Ipswich Player can watch the full interview with Mick now, with the Town boss welcoming new loan arrival, Jonny Williams, to his squad.

“He’s an exciting, young talented player and we are delighted to have him,” said Mick.

“We have been watching here for a while, all through last season. He had a great year. He is different to what we have in terms of attacking midfield players and has that ability to open teams up.”
