Goalscorer Daryl Murphy revels in Town's victory over Reading which sees Blues just two points off the top six

Daryl Murphy hailed Town’s win over Reading as ‘much needed’, as Blues returned to winning ways in style at Portman Road.

The striker opened the scoring with a lovely right-footed strike that went in off the underside of the bar, before the impressive Paul Anderson sealed the win in injury time with a superb solo effort.

The victory sees Town move to within two points of the Royals, who occupy the final Play-Off place, with Mick McCarthy’s side travelling to Elland Road to take on Leeds on Tuesday.

“It was a massive win, a well deserved win and a much needed win,” Murph told the Club website.

“We’ve been on a bad run of late but I think that was us back to the Ipswich of old and it was important to get a result against a strong Reading side, who are close to us in the table.

“Everybody played their part and it’s great to keep a clean sheet on the way to winning the game.

“On a personal note I’m delighted to add to my tally with a goal this afternoon. I don’t get many with my right-foot, so I was happy to see one fly in- especially off the underside of the bar as it always looks good!

“But the main thing is getting the win as a team and it sets us up nicely for a trip to Leeds on Tuesday.”
