Millwall were better than us on the day conceded Mick

Mick McCarthy conceded that Millwall deserved the win at The Den as Town suffered a third straight defeat.

A bizarre goal from Ryan Fredericks, a cross that drifted into the net, gave the Lions the points in Ian Holloway’s first home game in charge.

“We deserved to lose. They played better than us. We played badly,” said the Town boss.

“Ollie got them going, fair play to him for that. Their crowd were up and Millwall played well. They have got a good squad. I said that when we beat them 3-0 at our place.

“It was a blooper for the goal though and if you do that, you are not going to win games. Gerks has apologised. I think he misread the flight of the ball.”

Town lost Luke Hyam with a knee injury early on, with Mick adding: “He’s gone to hospital to have the cut cleaned up. It’s a nasty cut and we will know more later.”
