Big win says Mick and great signing for us in Richardson

Mick McCarthy hailed the victory over Reading as a 'great three points' as Town closed the gap on the top six.

Blues now stand seventh, just two points behind the Royals after second-half goals from Daryl Murphy and Paul Anderson gave Town a 2-0 win.

“It was a big win, a great win, against a team that I have always fancied to get promoted,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“The first-half was nothing.  We were probably lucky not to give away a penalty when Tunners [Ryan Tunnicliffe] has gone in for the tackle but I felt we didn’t compete like I expect my teams to do.

“Second-half we were terrific. Hunty [Stephen Hunt] gives us a spark and he created the chance for Murph who finished with aplomb.

“I was delighted with Ando for the second goal. We have been banging on about him taking players on. He does all the dirty stuff, the grafting and closing the opposition down really well, but we’ve been nagging on at him about being more positive and he did that today.

“The back four were terrific second-half as well and in the end we deserved the result.”

Mick also confirmed that Frazer Richardson has joined the Club on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season. The paperwork is expected to be completed on Monday, with the defender available for the Leeds game on Tuesday.

“I’m delighted we have been able to bring Frazer in,” said Mick.

“He’s only just turned 31, has great experience and he’s here to try and help us get into the top six and win himself a new contract for next season.

“Nigel Adkins said to me before the game, ‘well done for getting him’. Nigel had him at Southampton and says he’s a top pro and a proper bloke. That’s a nice endorsement from another manager.”
