Gaffer acknowledges pressure and is ready to do battle for a top six push this term

Mick McCarthy accepts that his side will be expected to compete for a top six place next season– and welcomes the challenge.

Blues finished ninth, four points off the Play-Offs last season in what was the Club’s highest placed finish since 2009.

The fixtures for the 2014/15 campaign are due out on tomorrow [June 18, 9am], with the season kicking off on August 9, with the Town boss already relishing the battle ahead.

“It has been said that after making a lot of progress last season, we will be expected to be right in there challenging for a top six place next year,” Mick told the Club website.

“I’m cool with that and the pressure that brings. I don’t like to accept ‘ordinary’ or ‘just good enough’ anyway.

“I was disappointed that we finished out of the top six last season. I’m not saying that we were better than the clubs that finished in those positions but we got ourselves into a situation where we could have done it, but we just couldn’t finish it off.

“The clubs that finished above us spent a fair few quid – barring Burnley – and even they paid out big money for Barnes [Ashley] so I’m immensely proud of the players and what we achieved. Now we have to go again.”

The Club website and Town’s social media channels will be the first to bring you news of the fixtures for 2014/15.
