MICK HAILS OWNER BACKING

30 June 2014

He’s a calm character, who goes about his business quietly. He’s good for me and I appreciate his support says boss

Mick McCarthy has praised the support he has received from Club owner Marcus Evans after he signed a new three year contract this afternoon.

The Town boss, who was in the last year of his current deal, has pledged his future to Blues that will see him and his assistant, Terry Connor, now remain at Portman Road until the summer of 2017.

“I have a very good relationship with Marcus and I’m obviously delighted that he and the Club want me to stay,” Mick told the Club website.

“He’s a calm character, who goes about his business quietly. He’s good for me and I appreciate his support.

“People think support has to be financial – well he’s put £80m into the Club – but for me, it’s about when you have had a couple of bad results, being in the same manner as when you’ve had good results.

“It’s about receiving that backing, rather than someone chipping away at you with this or that comment. Marcus never chips away. He likes to understand what I’m doing and tries to get the best out of me. That’s great for me.”

Speaking on behalf of the Club after Mick and TC put pen to paper on their contracts. Town managing director, Ian Milne, told the Club website: “Ipswich Town has moved forward considerably over the last 20 months under the expert guidance of Mick and Terry and we are confident that will continue.

“This Club has enjoyed some terrific managers down the years and with Mick and Terry signing new deals, we will continue to enjoy some of the best coaching and analytical skills available in the game.”
