Boss confident at adding the right players to his squad but feels he may have to wait until after the World Cup

Mick McCarthy is eyeing up the prospect of signing loan players from the Premier League but expects to have to wait until after the World Cup.

The summer extravaganza in Brazil kicks off today [June 12], when the hosts take on Croatia, with England opening their campaign against Italy two days later.

“The players that will be involved in the World Cup will need a break so Premier League clubs will take all their best youngsters with them on tour and keep them through pre-season,” the Town boss explained to the Club website.

“They will look at their young players and see if they are good enough to be involved next season, or whether they will benefit from going out on loan.

“There are definitely loan deals to be had with Premier League clubs and I don’t want to miss out on some of the good, exciting talent that could be available.

“Look at Jonny Williams and the impact he made here last season. How good would that be for us if we could get in a player of that standard on loan here?”

“It’s something that we are looking at and working towards, but it may require a bit of patience.”
