Mick happy with much of display but Wigan show clinical touch

Mick McCarthy was happy with much of Town’s display against Wigan but said his team contributed to their own downfall.

Tommy Smith gave Blues the lead but James McClean equalised within two minutes and then grabbed a third goal with a Leon Barnett header sandwiched in between.

“I was happy with our performance and I think we had the best of the first-half, as daft as that sounds having gone in 2-1 down,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player.

“We made mistakes for their goals though. They got behind us for the first one and then from the free-kick, we probably started at too high a line and the lad has got in front of our defence.

“We started the second-half well and we needed to stay in the game but Greenie got caught on the ball and they made us pay.

“They are a good team and are on a good run and when they had a chance, they were clinical with it. That’s probably the difference. We made a couple of mistakes and they punished us for it”
