Watershed stage of the season says Mick as Play-Off chase hots up
The FA Cup holders are the in-form team in the Championship with seven successive wins, including a 2-1 quarter-final success in the defence of their trophy at Manchester City last weekend.
Town are four points behind Reading in sixth and only five behind fifth placed Nottingham Forest. Wigan are currently seventh but have two games in hand in what is becoming an increasingly contested race for those Play-Off berths.
With Town travelling to eighth placed Brighton next week, then home games against Derby and Forest to follow, Mick acknowledges we're at a crucial stage of the campaign.
“Wigan is a big game for us in a big month. A watershed month for us in the season,” said the Town boss, writing in his column in Saturday’s matchday programme.
“We’re in the mix for that top six place. The clubs above us have slipped up a few times lately but that is going to happen. Injuries start to bite and you can be up against clubs who are fighting for their lives down the bottom of the table.
“Of course, when we come off the pitch, we will look to see how the other results have gone but we can’t influence those results, we can only concentrate on our performances and see where that takes us but you know my players well enough now, they will be giving it everything to get to where we all want to be.
“Wigan are on a terrific run and had a fabulous win at Manchester City last weekend. They are the form team in the division at the moment so we know the challenge we face but we will be ready for it.”
The Club are offering £5 off ticket prices for the Wigan game for anyone who bought a ticket for Blues’ last home game, against Birmingham, either online or pre-matchday. Click here for full details.
