BOSS ON CRESSY SPECULATION

29 May 2014

Mick won't stand in the way of Premier League move for Aaron if the price is right

Mick McCarthy says he won’t stand in the way of Aaron Cresswell leaving Town for the Premier League if the right offer comes along.

The Blues’ boss rates the defender as the ‘best left-back in the Championship’, an opinion shared by players at that level with Cressy named in the PFA Championship team of the season for 2013/14.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the 24-year-old recently and Mick told the Club website: “I’m not surprised.

“If a Premier League club comes in for him, at some stage Cressy has got to take that and go and play at that level.

“We are not going to let him go for silly money. We don’t have to let him go because he’s under contract but if a ‘proper’ offer came in, Cressy knew about it and it was a club that he would like to go to, we have to look at it.

“If we don’t he’s going to say ‘come on gaffer’. We have to be fair to him. He knows what we think of him here and he loves the place as well. If the offer is right for the Club and we don’t give him that opportunity, you can lose his head and his heart and if that happens, we won’t have the same player.”
